Brand photography with Artist Lucie Smailes in Devon

I met Lucie at an Open Exhibition eve in Ashburton and I was straight away drawn to her loud laughs and her quirky style. Whilst getting to know this fab lady, she mentioned her home to be a treasure trove of incredible 1950 ‘s furniture and objects, which intrigued me big time! We decided to do an brand / editorial photography shoot at her home to get images for a possible publication in a magazine and also to get brand images to use for her socials.

Lucie is an artist influenced by the aesthetic of the 1950's, the surrealist and Dada era, Gypsy culture and her love of flamenco dance and its motifs, which is her inspiration for her art and her style.

Stepping into her home was incredible! From dressed up mannequins, to props from old fun fairs, to bird wings, to lit up Madonna’s, to beautiful furniture, it felt like stepping into a creative whirlwind. We ended up spending most our time in her yellow original 1950’s kitchen, where we took some Portraits and chatted about her art.

We took some more pics of her in her studio working and of her art to create an editorial story, which will be be published in Devon Life magazine this coming month.

This is one of many shoots I feel so lucky to be a brand photographer, working with people from all walks of life makes me tick.
